Prague adds QR codes to public lamppost identification signs
Prague City Technology has been adding QR codes to the metal identification tags on public lighting, which will make it easier to report a lighting issue or an illegal advertisement. The codes will help emergency workers, as well as residents and tourists, navigate Prague.
There is a small metal plate with a six-digit number at eye level on 135,000 public lampposts in Prague. You can tell what district you are in from the first two numbers. QR codes will provide more information. By reading it on a mobile phone, you will be redirected to the new web application www.skenujprahu.cz, which will include data and various services.
In further stages of development, the QR codes should help lost tourists by telling them street names, advising them on their route and recommending the nearest tourist destinations. The pilot project is taking place in the city centre partly to be of more help to people visiting Prague.
